Terms of Service
Last updated: August 12, 2026. Contact: hello@ad.ms
1. What is ad.ms
ad.ms is a free subdomain service run as a personal project by a solo developer. When you register a subdomain — for example, yourname.ad.ms — you receive a revocable, non-exclusive license to use that label for as long as your account remains in good standing and you keep renewing it. That is it: a license to use a label, not a sale, not a lease, and not a transfer of any kind of property rights.
2. You Do Not Own the Subdomain
The ad.ms domain and every subdomain beneath it are owned by the operator at all times. Registering a subdomain does not give you a property right, a contractual entitlement, or any other legal interest in the label. You may not sell, transfer, or sublicense your subdomain to anyone else.
3. Renewal Requirement
Subdomains must be renewed at least once every 60 days from your dashboard. If you do not renew within that window, your subdomain is automatically deleted and the label becomes available to others immediately. There is no grace period after deletion.
Renewing takes one click. Set a reminder if you need one.
4. Revocability
Subdomains can be suspended, reclaimed, or deleted at any time for any of the following reasons:
- Violation of these Terms or applicable law
- Abuse, phishing, spam, malware, or harm to others
- Inactivity — failure to renew within 60 days
- A credible third-party claim that the subdomain infringes their rights
- At the operator's discretion, with or without a specific reason
- The service being sold, transferred, or shut down
If the service is acquired, shut down, or transferred to new ownership, your subdomains may be discontinued without notice. You will not receive compensation for any reclaimed or deleted subdomain.
5. Acceptable Use
You may not use your subdomain or its DNS records to:
- Host or distribute illegal content under any applicable jurisdiction
- Conduct phishing, credential harvesting, or social engineering attacks
- Distribute malware, ransomware, spyware, or other malicious software
- Send or facilitate spam or unsolicited bulk messaging
- Impersonate another person, organisation, brand, or government entity
- Infringe copyright, trademarks, or other third-party intellectual property
- Harass, threaten, or harm other users or third parties
6. DNS Records
Within your assigned subdomain you may set A, AAAA, CNAME, and TXT records. These records must point to infrastructure you control or have permission to use.
MX records are not permitted. This restriction exists to prevent the service from being used as a base for email-based abuse. Attempts to set MX records will be rejected. You may not attempt to manipulate DNS outside your assigned subdomain namespace.
7. Account Limits
Each account may hold up to 5 active subdomains at any one time. To register a new subdomain beyond that limit, delete an existing one first.
8. No Warranties
The service is provided “as is” without any warranty. There are no guarantees of uptime, availability, perpetual operation, or fitness for any particular purpose. DNS propagation and third-party infrastructure are outside our control. This is a free service run by one person — treat it accordingly and do not depend on it for anything critical.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator is not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service — including but not limited to loss of data, loss of subdomain access, or service interruption. Because this is a free service with no commercial relationship, the operator’s total liability to you for any claim under these Terms shall not exceed zero.
10. Termination
The operator may terminate or suspend your account at any time, with or without notice, for violations of these Terms or for conduct deemed harmful to the service or its users. Upon termination, all your subdomains and DNS records are removed. You may also delete your own account at any time from the dashboard.
11. Changes to These Terms
These Terms may be updated at any time. The date at the top of this page will reflect the latest revision. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify registered users by email. Continued use of the service after updated Terms are posted constitutes your acceptance of those changes.
